Mons Town Hall was built in the Gothic style between 1458 and 1477. It has only one floor and is notable for its bell tower – added in 1717–1718.
On the facade, be sure to check out Gérard Garouste's work of art from 2006: a bronze banister, depiction of Saint George (the helmet) and the dragon, and also the monkey that brings good luck.
It is worth seeing the various rooms inside: the Wedding Hall (Salle des Mariages) with its Italianate ceiling (1682); the Commission Room (Salle des Commissions) with its Rance marble chimney; the Pouch Room (Salle des Sacquiaux) with its impressive open fireplace from the 16th century. The portrait room (les Grands Salons) and the large rooms (les Grands Salons) are also special, they have been redecorated with antique furniture and artefacts.
The mayor's office (Cabinet d'Apparat) is one of the oldest parts (15th century) of the building, but the current decoration dates from the end of the 19th century.
Tip: The name "Salle des Sacquiaux" comes from the local dialect where "sacquiaux" is a word for "small leather pouches". Originally this was the hall for the guards, where the city keys were kept in leather pouches.
The halls of the town hall are only accessible with prior reservation and only accompanied by an official guide. Information at the Tourist Office.

The town hall stands in the middle of the Grand-Place of the Doudou town and was built for the most part during the 2nd half of the 15th century.

The oldest parts of this architectural gem date from the period 1458-1477. It is still in pure Gothic, very similar to that of the nearby Collegiate Church of Saint Waldetrude.
