The old town hall forms the center of the lovingly restored old town of Angermünde. If you stroll through the streets here, it feels like a time travel in the 18th century.

The town hall of Angermünde stands diagonally in the middle of the market square. It is similar to the Templiner and the Lychener, which is how Prussian town halls had to look like in the 18th century: standing freely on the market square and a turret with a golden crown at the top. Next to the front door is a wooden donkey. The Uckermark wood artist Karl Rätsch has recreated a historical pillory donkey here. Fraudsters and counterfeiters had to sit on him as punishment. The donkey replaced the usual post-shaped pillory. The last time a man is said to have "ridden" this donkey was in 1851.
