The Hotel Lunik was the first address in GDR times. There are i.a. the Austrian craftsmen who built the converter steelworks descended. Among other things, there was also an Intershop there. For West Germans, these were shops in the GDR, where one could buy western goods or goods from the GDR with D-Mark or forum checks. The hotel has been empty for years because no investor can be found.

The Hotel Lunik (Russian: little moon) was built in the early 1960s and was once the "first house on the square". It housed, among other things, a fine restaurant, Intershop and disco. Today, the Lunik is the last house on the square and a symbol of the failed Treuhand policy. Since the fall of the Wall, the building has changed hands several times. Despite several attempts, the cash-strapped city has been denied a repurchase (also because the city never owned the property), and the GDR gem has become a lost place🙁.

The Lindenallee was built at the end of the 1950s in the style of international modernism. Models from Northern Europe, such as Sweden, were the inspiration for an architecture that was already in the forefront of the industrialization of construction.

Today the hotel is empty and neglected: an eyesore.
