On the theater island in the Lusatian Neisse between the two cities Guben and Gubin stood the former city theater. It opened in 1874 and even survived the Second World War. However, unfortunately it was destroyed by arson in late 1945. Since World War II, the island belongs to Poland and was not accessible to the population because of the border proximity to the GDR until the fall of the Eastern Bloc. Since then, the island has been accessible as a public park. In addition, the historic entrance of the theater, which had survived the fire, was restored and declared a monument. The original columns of the former theater are located on the south side. Since 2008, there is also a wooden bridge, which connects the island with the German Guben. On the south and west side of the island are pause possibilities available, which invite you to linger.

The Polish island, located between the towns of Guben and Gubin in the course of the Neisse, can be reached from both towns via bridges. There was a theater on the island, which opened in 1874. Although the theater miraculously survived World War II unscathed, it fell victim to arsonists in 1945. The newly built entrance portal, on which the original column remains of the former theater are located, is located in a historical location. A small memorial by Goethe's muse Corona Schröter, who was born in Guben, adorned the theater park. Part of the monument still stands today, but the bust is thought to be lost. The Neißeinsel has become a park for pedestrians and cyclists, with well-tended grounds and seating in the shade of old trees.

The best way is the pedestrian bridge to the beautifully designed theater island. This invites you to linger. However, you should not forget the ID. 😉
