The House of World Cultures (HKW) is an exhibition venue in Berlin for international contemporary arts and a forum for current developments and discourses. It presents artistic productions from all over the world with special consideration of non-European cultures and societies. As an icon of architectural modernism, the congress hall has become a prominent symbol of the German-American alliance. [3] In the vernacular of Berlin, the building is also known by its name under the name "Pregnant Oyster".
The congress hall was created as an American contribution to the International Building Exhibition Interbau 1957 and should embody the freedom of exchange of ideas.
