Every year this spectacle takes place with the freshly baked doctors who are allowed to kiss the Liesel and you should just take your time for it.

The Gänseliesel in front of the old town hall is a fountain figure since 1901 the landmark of the university city of Göttingen. The bronze figure of the fountain was created by the sculptor Paul Nisse to a design by the architect Heinrich Stöckhardt. Since 1990 it is a copy, while the original figure is in the Municipal Museum.
Parts of the student body soon incorporated the well into their custom. After enrolling, the students boarded the well to kiss the fountain figurine. As this often happened in the context of loud celebrations, on March 31, 1926, a decree was issued, which made the climbing of the market well and a kissing of the goose-shit under penalty. Because the students did not stick to it, 1926 came to a "kiss process". After the cand. Jur. Georg Graf Henckel von Donnersmarck was caught red-handed, he had to pay a fine of ten Reichsmark. Although the law student fought the administrative penalty and demanded from the court "kiss freedom" and "yet to remove the spell from the bronze lips", but he was successful neither in the district court of Göttingen before the Berlin Court of Appeal. The kiss ban was officially continued, but was hardly noticed. That is why the Gänseliesel the Göttinger as the most kissed girl in the world. However, in recent decades it was no longer the newly enrolled students who kissed the goose slush, but doctoral students after their successful examination. In the process, a bouquet of flowers is presented to the goose-girl. On the occasion of the Gänseliesel's 100th anniversary, the City Council officially lifted the kiss ban.

Gänseliesel is the name for a female figure in connection with domestic geese. Liesel is a short form of the female first name Elisabeth. The figure of the Gänseliesel was often thematized by artists in the form of paintings or sculptures. As a decorative element of buildings and fountains, reliefs or statues can be found in many places that show a goose girl. Often these are depictions of everyday situations in which maids or girls tend the geese or bring them to the market.

The foie gras is watching over the fountain from 1901. Age, gladly practiced custom: The Liesel is kissed by newly appointed doctors of the faculties of the University of Göttingen after passing the exam.

The symbol of Göttingen. Also to be found in the Monopoly Germany version as Schlossallee. Doctoral students kiss the goose bug and decorate the fountain with flowers. For a long time there was a ban on kissing, but this has been lifted since 2001.

Very beautiful. If there aren't these harassers who always want to recruit you for something, e.g. SOS children's villages, etc., like yesterday. Or when they're not sitting on the fountain. And so can not take photos.
