In the S. XVI, João de Castilho designed the Chapel of São João Baptista, but it was during the s. XVIII when the most significant campaign of works was carried out and that would give this temple the baroque splendor preserved to this day, looking like a church covered in gold, due to the abundance of gilt carving.
