The narrow cobbled streets of Ribeira are dotted with small bars and restaurants serving classic Portuguese dishes, such as grilled sardines. Next to the Douro River, Praça da Ribeira is surrounded by colorful houses from the 18th century.

The Ribeira (Portuguese for river bank) is the everyday language for the lower part of the historic old town of Porto, close to the Douroufer. The district is part of the city's historic center, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996.

The center of the Ribeira is the Cais de Ribeira promenade, which connects the access to the Dom Luís Bridge with the Praça da Ribeira. Numerous bars, souvenir shops and restaurants line up here. From the shore, the traditional port wine boats (barcos rabelos), the Douro and across from it the sister city of Vila Nova de Gaia can be observed.

The part of the Ribeira behind the promenade consists of narrow, steep streets and old houses, many of which, although some are now being extensively renovated, are structurally in poor condition and more often - with the exception of the shops on the ground floor - are empty.

Just fantastic, a very nice promenade with a great view.
