The post mill is the oldest type of windmill in Europe. The main feature of this type of mill is that the entire mill house stands on a single thick pole, which is fixed vertically in a wooden support frame located below the actual mill. A post mill has been in the European Bread Museum in Ebergötzen since 2004.

The post mill in Hotteln near Hildesheim was built in 1812. From 1960 onwards, the great “mill death” began in Germany. The EBM mill was saved from this fate. In 1974 she found a new home in Mollenfelde, the former location of the Bread Museum. After the bread museum moved to Ebergötzen, the mill went on tour again.
It resumed work on October 21, 2004 in the presence of the last miller, Otto Warmbold, who operated the mill between 1939 and 1974. A fully restored post windmill that is now fully functional again awaits your visit.
