Hiking Highlight (Segment)
After reaching the hill from Wetter through a shady valley, the path winds its way above the valley of the Ruhr along the mountains.
Highlight is undoubtedly a lovingly designed seating area with a small garden. From there, there is a beautiful view of the Hartkortsee.

The Harkortsee was created for the fine purification of the Ruhr water, in particular because in the past both Lenne and Volme have introduced significantly polluted water, some continue to initiate. The Hagen sewage treatment plant was modernized in the years 2003 to 2005, so that the residual pollutants previously introduced from there after clarification in significant quantities have since been considered negligible. And so the Harkortsee is today also a recreational area with many hiking opportunities in the surrounding forests

The two reservoirs Hengsteysee and Harkortsee were actually built as clarification lakes at the beginning (around 1922) to filter out the sediments that were mainly discharged into the river through the Lenne. The sediments in question were the many wire drawing mills in Hohenlimburg and Altena. If you used to be on the Hohensyburg you could see the yellow water of the Lenne from there, which mixed with the clean water of the Ruhr. In order to filter out the tinder of the drawn wires, one of the main reasons was to dam the two lakes.
