In 1995 the entire palace complex was extensively renovated and now houses the Elsterschloss-Gymnasium, which is considered one of the most beautiful schools in Germany.

The first mention of a castle was in 1288. Until 1616, after demolition of the old buildings, a more winged complex was built, which was completed in 1737.
