The Grödel-Elsterkanal flows into the Pulsnitz

I discovered many different birds along the canals, and there are also beautiful tree-lined avenues planted on both sides.

At the inconspicuous spot where the Grödel-Elster Canal flows into the Pulsnitz River, something is happening that isn't immediately visible, but is felt. Here, two waterways intertwine to form a shared history. The canal's old technical route, once built for goods and progress, glides quietly into the gently meandering Pulsnitz River, which seems more suited to dragonflies and ducks than barges.

To the left and right, trees line the water – sometimes young leaves, fresh and boisterous, gazing into the water, sometimes aging branches, bending to the passage of time. Patches of light, water lilies, and the wind's swirls dance on the water. It's a quiet scene, but not an empty one: If you pause, you can hear the gentle flow, the murmur of past years, and the tranquil present.

The bridge over the canal seems like a forgotten observation post – built of sandstone, with patches of moss, as if it had already counted down many years of rain. And when you stand there, overlooking the confluence, you understand: This place doesn't speak loudly, but it does so persistently.

It's one of those places that wants nothing – except to be overlooked. And sometimes, when the sky presses down heavily on the treetops, this transition between waterways becomes a small, quiet magic.
