Just climb the chunk and enjoy the view, that was not for a long time. When Germany was still divided into two parts, the Brocken was a restricted zone and was used as a strategic point to spy on the West. At that time military vehicles rattled this way up and down armor plates. Today you can empathize with the bike. These panels are typical of remote military and economic routes in rural areas of eastern Germany. Just let it run, then it shakes only half as strong;)

The departure shakes a powerful through and that goes on the material! Best avoided if you can!

The shepherd's climb is the steepest ascent to Brocken. The former tank road can be relatively good drive. Some sections are very steep, but the shepherding is very scenic and the view into the country in fantastic weather fantastic.

The descent on the old NVA boards has a gradient of up to 18%. It is not nice ...

Not recommended without disc brake. Careful than you already are can not hurt!

Pretty demanding, fast route. The holey stone slabs can make you quite tender. The first sunken concrete gutter surprised me a lot. Hello awake! I drive a 26 "hardtail, that does not sweep over everything, but we still had speeds well over 50 km / h on the speedometer, with a bit of caution a very worthwhile track, but I do not want to drive up ;-)

The northern descent from the Brocken is in my opinion much steeper compared to the southern driveway. In addition, the track used to be a tank track with transverse concrete slabs, which do not form a level track. Because of this you can not run the bike here but must drive controlled.

The descent on the north side of Brocken is much steeper than the other side. This path follows the old border road for tanks that was used to patrol the inner German border. In contrast to summer, winter this is a really smooth ride down. This segment is better ridden downhill.

On the way from Brocken to Eckertalsperre it goes down over an old GDR border troop street, which consists of concrete slabs. That's a real challenge. An absolute vibrating route.

Here is a stamp for the Harz hiking pass.
On the Brocken it can be colder German compared to the lower layers. One should pay attention to the clothes.

If you want to get down quickly, this path is ideal. Wide tires with low air pressure and a softly adjusted fork catch the beats outstanding.

Here you definitely need good brakes ... Even when trying to drive slowly not material-friendly 🤷🏻♂️

Beautiful steep concrete slab path. Relatively flat except for a few small dents to take off. A nice reward if you have trampled on the chunks before. 😀

It is definitely worth to visit the Brocken. Whether on the Harz narrow-gauge railway on foot or by bike

Things are looking up. about 2.8 km with a slope of partially 20%! But do not despair, if you see the pothead towers, the summit is not far away! The great view compensates for these exertions ...
