The heart of the old town beats on the Old Market Square. During the open-air season, the square is one of the most popular meeting places for Bielefeld residents and visitors.

The town hall was located here until 1904; today, the "Theater am Alten Markt" hosts spectacular performances. Enjoy a relaxing break in one of the numerous cafés and restaurants during your stroll through the city. The lovingly restored historic facades and magnificent gables leave a special impression, especially the Crüwell House with its late Gothic stepped gable from 1530. Its entrance on the small Piggenstraße leads to a very special treasure: around 7,000 Delft tiles from the 16th to 18th centuries, hung in the stairwell, tell of bygone days.
