The laying of the foundation stone of the Stadttheater am Niederwall was in 1901, it was opened in April 1904. It is played by the Theater Bielefeld, the "cultural elephant" in the city. In a total of eight venues in three houses (two of them on the Lower Wall) and four sections - music theater, dance, drama, symphony concerts - around 200,000 visitors are attracted each year. Hiking

The city of Bielefeld was one of the few cities without its own theater for a long time. The building could only be inaugurated in 1904 after three years of construction.

With around 500 performances a year, the Stadttheater Bielefeld is one of the largest theaters in the East Westphalia region.
