The huge Diersfordter Waldsee was created by dredging. Raw materials, especially gravel, will be extracted from it until 2030. Currently the area of the lake is 200 hectares, by the end of the excavations it will increase to about 300 hectares.

Thanks to the biotopes created by reclamation work, the Diersfordter Waldsee offers replacement habitats for numerous rare species of animals and especially bird species such as the common tern and black-headed gull. Master Bockert, the beaver, is at home in the northern forest lake.
Leisure and recreation - from boat tours to guided canoe excursions

With the visitor boat “MS August” there is the possibility to take part in guided excursions across the lake and to visit the artificially created biotopes up close (registration required, see contact).

For those looking for relaxation, since 2006 a cycling and hiking trail has been leading right on the banks of the Diersfordter Waldsee to “look at nature”. Several viewing platforms offer a wonderful view of the lake with its island biotopes. Information boards set up there provide information about nature conservation and leisure around the lake. You can also visit a historical excavator, the “museum gripper”. For sailing enthusiasts, a jetty has been set up on the south bank of the lake. In addition, guided paddle tours across the lake are offered (registration required, see contact).

Without further (forbidden) climbing you can unfortunately not enter the lake shore ... 😒
