<< Great Veen heathland >>
"The "Große Veen" is a moor landscape in the north-eastern part of the Diersfordt Forest with an extraordinary variety of animal and plant species. The term "Veen" describes a boggy to swampy habitat. The Große Veen is the largest heath moor in the district of Wesel and has existed since the 17th century, as documents from the Diersfordt Castle Archive prove. Nature lovers can experience this unique landscape and its special inhabitants on the moor adventure trail, a circular route that partly leads over wooden planks. The rare species of dragonfly, the moor frog and rare plant species such as red peat moss, sundew, cotton grass or rosemary heather are just a few of the many species that make the Great Veen a special gem."
