On August 17, 1394, the hospital chapel was founded by the Mittenwalde council outside the city walls. The chapel was used for the services of travelers and in the adjacent buildings, sick patients were also treated. Because of its dual function, it was called the hospital chapel.

The St. Georgen Chapel was repaired and restored in 1993/94. Twice a year there is a service in the chapel, on St. George's Day and on National Mourning Day.
