The Großmachnower Weinberg is a 12.89 hectare nature reserve.

The elevation is 76.5 m high at its highest point and was formed from a terminal moraine. To the north is Wohnplatz Fenne, further north to the eponymous district of Groß Machnow. In the west, the nature reserve is bordered by the district of Pramsdorf, while in the east and south is the district of the town of Mittenwalde. The Zülow Canal flows past the vineyard to the south.

The elevation got its name from the viticulture, which has been practiced for many centuries since the Middle Ages. In the 19th/20th In the 19th century, additional gravel was quarried on the southern slope. After viticulture was abandoned, farmers kept sheep on the slopes. They prevented forest from growing again in the open areas and a species-rich steppe flora developed. As early as 1936, the area was one of the first in Brandenburg to be declared a nature reserve. However, as a result of reforestation, light-loving species were increasingly pushed out. A further complication was that fertilizer was introduced through the adjacent, intensive agriculture. The dry, calcareous sandy grassland and the old, acidic oak forests on sandy plains with pedunculate oaks were decisive for the classification as an FFH area.

A work camp was held in 2005, where hiking trails were laid and signposts, benches and information boards were set up. In 2012, the nature reserve became part of the 18,018-hectare Notte-Niederung conservation area.
