Forest sanctuary of St. Ottilien:
The first chapel stood on this site around 679 (information board in the fountain chapel). The chapel is dedicated to St. Odilia. Saint Odilia was born blind around 660 as the daughter of the Alsatian Duke Attich. Rejected by her father, she was taken to a monastery where she was baptized and miraculously gained sight. The church was originally built next to a spring whose radon-containing water is said to provide relief for eye problems. The consecration of the church, which was newly built in 1503, took place in 1505.
Inside you will find old murals and the grotto with the spring, which can be visited.
Waldrestaurant St. Ottilien:
People have been able to stop here for over 500 years. A beautiful outdoor area with a playground and a great view over a meadow.
As of April 2023: Very well maintained and delicious food; young, friendly team.
May be closed during the week if the weather is bad. If in doubt, call ahead:
