This chapel was founded in 1925 on the initiative of Father Martial (born Edouard Lekeux), who served as a reserve lieutenant during the war.

Father Martial stayed in Oud-Stuivekenskerke for more than 16 months and became known as the “maïeur” or mayor of the area.

After the war, he returned to his monastery and became Father Martial. He decided to build a memorial chapel in honor of Our Lady of Victory, in gratitude for his rescue and in memory of the soldiers of the Yser Front.

The chapel is surrounded by 41 memorial stones and two memorial columns, which commemorate the sacrifices of the soldiers during the war.
