Here you have a great view of the Oder. The cycle path leads through the "Oderbruch", an inland delta in the Märkische Oderland. The Oder used to meander in several arms through the lowlands, which were completely flooded several times a year - until in the 18th century, under King Frederick II, someone came up with the idea of draining the area. In this way, large areas could be drained, settled and used as fertile farmland.
