The Charles Fountain is not named after Charlemagne, but the now deceased Wendelstein forester Karl Lober, who originally created the fountain. The water in the fountain comes from an overflow from one of the old sand pits that were created in the Wendelstein quarries as a result of quartz sandstone mining. "The miners probably used the spring water as drinking water in earlier times," says Roland Blank. He underlined that the Bavarian State Forests attach importance to the three areas of use, recreation and nature conservation and see measures such as this as an optimal link.

On the way from Wendelstein to the little bridge on the right side of the path you just have to pass the Stone Snake without getting bitten.
