The De Koolhofput nature reserve is the ideal place for hikers, nature lovers, anglers and a stopping point for cyclists. This spot is accessible via the Frontzate bicycle connection between Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide.
The Frontzate is an old railway that now serves as a walking and cycling route. Along the way you will encounter war relics.

De Koolhofput is a pond located north of the West Flemish town of Ramskapelle, in the municipality of Nieuwpoort.
The 10-hectare pond was created in the 1990s by sand extraction for the construction of the A18.
Today the lake is a recreational area with walking trails, birdwatching huts and the like, and it is also used for fishing. The lake is connected to the Nieuwpoort-Dunkirk Canal via the Koolhofvaart. In the immediate vicinity of the lake runs the 'Frontzate' and there are relics from the 'First World War.
The area is now part of the Provincial Domain Frontzate.
