During his many years in office from 1978-1999 as mayor, Karl Flügel played a key role in shaping the positive development of the town of Kamp-Lintfort. Even then he knew that the mining era in Kamp-Lintfort would eventually come to an end and encouraged the "youngsters" to develop concepts for the future.
