The record has been back in Rendsburg since 2014: the longest bench in the world is back on the Kiel Canal. Anyone can sit on a 575.75 meter long wooden bench on the bank of the canal there, an absolutely attractive box seat on the busiest shipping route in the world.

Rendsburg had to fight hard to win back the title. The city set this extraordinary record 25 years ago. But in 2007 the Thuringians followed suit and presented a 49 meter longer bench at the Federal Horticultural Show in Ronneberg. But the people of Rendsburg didn't want to put up with that, and the old bench had to be extended. With the support of carpentry and construction companies from the region, the bench could be extended again - by almost 25 meters more than the Thuringian model.
