New York and PlauenBut what do Plauen and New York have in common? It is Fritz Cremer's sculpture “Ascending”.Cremer created the bronze sculpture in 1966/67 and the GDR donated it to the United Nations in 1975. Since then, the sculpture has stood in the park of the UN headquarters in New York.Fritz Cremer, a staunch communist, wanted the work to depict the quest for liberation and the rise of man becoming aware of his own role.A second cast of the sculpture was placed in Plauen in 1989 on a meadow below the summit of the Bärenstein. Next to it on a sign you can read that it is dedicated to the peoples fighting for their freedom.vogtland-zauber.de/der-baerenstein-oder-was-plauen-und-new-york-meinsam-haben
