The Kaiserbrunnen was built in 1897 on the site of an old, dilapidated fountain. The fountain, created by Hans Baur, lost its original figure decoration during the 1940s, as the material was used for the armaments industry. In the early 1990s, Gernot and Barbara Rumpf redesigned the complex and hid numerous allusions to Constance's past. Among other things, a three-headed peacock with papal crowns symbolizes the time before the Council of Constance, when three popes claimed the Holy See at the same time.
