The cross of the betrothed was erected in memory of Marie Josephe Solheid and François Reiff, who died on January 21, 1871 in a terrible snowstorm in the Fagnes, not far from Baraque Michel. The engaged couple were on their way to Xhoffraix to obtain marriage papers. The approximately 20 km long route led over the snow-covered Venn, from which the two should not come out.
