The Ladby-Schiff is a faithful replica of the ship discovered in 1935 in a burial mound on Kerteminde Fjord on the island of Fyn. The approximately 22-meter-long and three-meter-wide longship was used around 925 AD for an opulent burial. Also interesting are the grave goods: eleven horses (as draft animals for the journey to the afterlife) and several hunting dogs. Denmark's only Viking ship grave directly on the Kerteminde Fjord. Here in Ladby, around the year 925, one of the kings of a Viking tribe was buried along with his ship and various grave goods. The Ladby ship is a Viking ship that was found in 1935 by the pharmacist and amateur archaeologist Poul Helweg Mikkelsen from Odense and excavated and cast in concrete in 1937. After the excavation, it became clear that the ship had served as a burial site, meaning that the ship had been buried with its captain. The ship grave is today the center of the Ladby Viking Museum, which, with the grave and the museum building, tells the story of the Vikings' life and death in Denmark.
