In the fall of 2006, a sculpture of the town's two great artists, Johannes Larsen (1867-1961) and Fritz Syberg (1862-1939), created by local sculptor Bjørn Nordahl, was unveiled on Nordre Kirkerist, next to the parish church.

Johannes Larsen and Fritz Syberg were both members of the Funen Painters, a group that played a key role in shaping the Danish art scene at the beginning of the 20th century.

When Fritz Syberg, along with Johannes Larsen, who was already living in Kerteminde, settled here, the town was considered one of Denmark's most important art centers for several decades.

The two artists are richly represented in the Johannes Larsen Museum in Kerteminde.
