    history of
    Water mill builder

The oldest documentary mention of a mill at this location dates back to 1535. Presumably, however, the location is already as old as the former depot Deppendorf, which is first mentioned in the 12th century.

A new mill building with two water wheels and grinding mills was built in 1697 by the owner of Deppendorf farm, Elisabeth Rohde, widow of Meinders. It is largely preserved to this day in its original structure. In the course of the division of the domain Deppendorf in 1776 by Frederick the Great, the miller Gerhard Henrich Baumeister (1749-1827), the lands of the yard Deppendorf No. 1 acquired in hereditary lease and bought in 1778 the so-called "Supreme Deppendorfer mill" added. The farm and the mill are owned by the family for four generations. The miller family Niemann is since 1887 tenants, from 1954 also owner. The operation is abandoned in 1972.

Gustav Niemann sold the mill to the city of Bielefeld in 1982 and for nearly twenty years she was left to her fate. After the demolition of the building is planned, Hans Georg Baumeister acquires the mill in 2001, has it listed as a historical monument and has been lovingly and faithfully restoring it ever since.

From April / May 19, the mill is open at least on Sundays for a long breakfast - in good weather on the terrace between the streams ....
And if you do not want to go on, you can stay in the memorial ...
