A great tour destination. The entire ensemble with the gatehouse, Roland and the central square with fountain invites you to take a break. Numerous dining options offer sufficient food.

To be honest: Roland on the market square in Bad Bramstedt looks around a little sadly. Like an ancient Roman warrior who has just lost a battle, even if he resolutely holds the (market judge's) sword upwards on his horizontally outstretched arm.
He would have every reason to look happy and proud. After all, “his” Bad Bramstedt is a handsome small town, long known and popular as a health resort. It is also said to be the northernmost Roland in Germany. He also looks back on a long and glorious past.
Bramstedter Rolande, initially wooden, are documented from 1533 onwards. The stone Roland has stood here since 1693, made of Oberkirchner sandstone and occasionally renovated - for example in 1748, 1827, 1895 and 1965.
Under the sign of Roland, a significant market was held, contracts were confirmed and disputes were settled. Even merchants from Brabant used to trade here. But above all, cattle traders went about their business. The famous historic oxen path from Jutland ran through Bad Bramstedt. On a plaque at the foot of Roland you can read: “Symbol of the fair trade in the ox trade.”

The brave Roland in front of the castle in Bad Bramstedt raises his sword and looks a bit sad. It used to be legal and I hope he did a good job.
