The washerwoman at the Beeckerbrücke in Bad Bramstedt wrings out her pieces with verve, not knowing that she will one day go down in history. According to tradition, the Danish King Christian IV saw the young woman washing clothes and fell in love with her when she rode through Bramstedt in 1625. Later she became his partner and mother of two children together. It is controversial whether the story happened exactly like this. It is indisputable that the farmer's daughter Wiebeke Kruse, born around 1605 in Puls (Steinburg district), became the king's mistress and died on April 28, 1648 in Copenhagen.

Sculptor Alfred Schmidt created the approx. 170 cm high fountain sculpture on behalf of the Bad Bramstedt community and transport association, which today reminds of the unusual history. The water flowing freely from the laundry gives the installation a special liveliness. At the inauguration in 1996, however, there was a scandal, because the cleavage of the young woman was perceived as "too generous", so that the artist had to rework it chastely. It can be assumed that it was precisely the joyful femininity of the young Wiebeke Kruse that won the king over…

The very cute Wiebke Kruse Brunnen is reminiscent of a historical love: When the Danish King Christian IV rode through Bramstedt in 1625, he saw the young Wiebke Kruse washing clothes on the side of the path and immediately fell in love. Wiebke Kruse became his lover and they had two children together.
