On Sunday once drove this route to visit the small memorial of British soldiers who crashed here on 06.03.1945. On this day heavy bomber attacks were flown on Salzbergen and dropped about 4000 bombs by several hundred bombers. In Salzbergen there were 40 dead, including women and children. A mother had to watch as her 8 year old son drowned in the basement by rising groundwater next to her. The Lancaster bomber was shot down by the nearby Flakstellung STEIDE (near the weather mushroom) and exploded in the air. The 7 young soldiers were first buried at this point and then reburied 1947 on a military cemetery near Kleve on the Lower Rhine.

Just get out and enjoy the nice evening and the fresh air outside. Unfortunately, we only have a little time in the evening, because it always gets dark sooner. But what the hell, with the early evenings comes the nice cozy autumn. A glass of wine in the cuddly home is also nice again. Or two...?
