The Köllnische Heide was originally a strip of forest along the Spree von Kölln, the neighboring city of Berlin, to Coepenick, today's Köpenick, which was released to the citizens of Kölln as a supplier of firewood. In 1709 the forest strip came into the possession of the city of Berlin. Today there is only a small remnant of the same name left between Adlershof and Oberspree. It is a nice piece of green for relaxation, jogging and resting. The Adlershof cemetery is also on the edge of the Kölln heath.
Today's Königsheide between Baumschulenweg and Johannisthal is also a remnant of the former Köllnische Heide.
