According to current calculations, the 15th meridian runs through the city on the Neißewiesen. It was built in 1661 in memory of the first manned space flight by the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin.

The reference meridian of Central European Time (CET), the 15th meridian east, runs through Görlitz.
In the city park, a stone globe with an inscription indicates that this is where the time comes from, which is the statutory standard time in well over half of the European countries.
If, for example, the clocks strike 12 noon in Madrid, Brussels, Oslo, Warsaw and Belgrade - please note at the same time - it is noon in any of these capitals according to local time.
