Hiking

The cross commemorates an event from 1838. The district ranger Johann Wilhelm Alwens was attacked by poachers at this location. They threatened to tie him up on an oak tree. At his constant request, the poachers released him. Out of gratitude, he cut a cross into the bark of the oak trunk. Johann W. Alwen's successor, the forester Gambichler, had the dry oak fell in 1848 and the White Cross built from its wood.
