The water tower, which can be seen from afar, owes its origin to a cholera epidemic in Hamburg in 1892. 10,000 deaths were to be mourned. This epidemic did not reach Cuxhaven, but warned those responsible at the Ritzebüttel office. The Hamburg city council decided to build a central water supply in order to avoid the infectious diseases that occur. The Ritzebüttel office belonging to the Hanseatic city should also be taken into account.
