The water tower was put into operation in 1897 and was an important part of the city's water supply. The tower is 35 meters high and holds a total of 400 cubic meters of water. In 2004 the water tower, one of Cuxhaven's landmarks, was taken out of service. Instead, four apartments were built on the round base.
