The best known and at the same time the happiest of all works of art in Friedrichshain is the fairy tale fountain by city planning officer Ludwig Hoffmann. The grandiose structure in the style of an Italian water theater was built between 1902 and 1913 at the western tip of the park and was intended as a gift to working-class children threatened by typhus and rickets.
Of course everything is covered in winter. Let's stop by again in the spring.

The fairy tale fountain was opened in 1913 after twelve years of construction. It is one of the most beautiful fountains in Berlin and is a listed building. The 106 stone sculptures show motifs from the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm. The ten central sculptures on the edge of the pool interpret fairy tales such as "Puss in Boots", "Hansel and Gretel" and "Snow White".
