You are literally at the origin of Sint-Martens-Latem. This idyllic little square with its pond has remained virtually unchanged for 450 years and later became the perfect source of inspiration for the famous Flemish expressionists.
What makes this place so special is the combination of medieval village history and Flemish art.
The triangular village green with its pond was already the heart of the village in the 16th century. A map from 1575 already shows the spot. Farmers from the surrounding community gathered their cattle here to drink and be milked.
