Alongside Guido Gezelle and Karel van de Woestijne, Minne is one of the great Flemish poets of the first half of the 20th century. Minne was first heard as one of the founders of the magazine "'t Fonteintje". Together with Maurice Roelants, he was the driving force behind this magazine. Minne searched for a while for the right path in his life. He was a civil servant at the Ministry of Justice for a year and then tried as a farmer.

From 1930 Richard Minne started working as a journalist. In this profession he could lose his love for language. Minne's oeuvre is not large, but his poems are gripping due to the fact that he uses strong language. Minne's work is not really cheerful. Usually disappointment and bitterness are central. Due to the ironic tone, however, everything remains easily digestible. The great recognition of his work came in 1946, when he won the Triennial State Prize for Dutch Prose with 'Wolfijzers en Schietgeweren', a collection of prose and poetry.

Richard Minne also wrote the Spiegelleire under his pseudonym 'Pierken'. This little boy commented on the political and social events in Flanders. 'Pierken' did this in a juicy phonetic Gents. The 'upper class' work is also often disliked. He died quite suddenly in his home in 1965. He was buried in the cemetery of Latem (on the Latemstraat). There it rests, in the place of honor for artists, under a large silver birch.

The original house has since been demolished. The new home is privately owned. Please respect the property and privacy of residents.
