Best Hikes to View of Steinfeld Abbey from Eifelblick Königsberg

Tips

  • Especially in the late afternoon, when the sun goes down behind the Steinfeld monastery, a very nice place to unwind.

  • At an altitude of approx. 500 meters above sea level. The Eifel view in Königsberg gives visitors a fantastic view of the Steinfeld monastery.

  • The "Eifel Views" are an initiative of the German-Belgian Nature Park
and from Rureifel-Tourismus e. V .. There are particularly beautiful viewpoints in the Eifel.
(There are over 60 of them and IF THE KOMOOT TEAM DOESN'T DELETE THEM, I'll try to collect them all!)

The Königsberg has a height of about 500 meters above sea level and is surrounded by richly structured forest, which is the habitat of many animal and plant species that are worthy of protection. It is therefore part of the "Auen und Hänge an Urft und Gillesbach" nature reserve, which is also part of the European "Natura 2000" system of protected areas.
On the opposite side of the Gillesbach valley, the Steinfeld monastery rises to the west. The complex is considered to be one of the best preserved monastic monuments in the Rhineland. The history goes back over 1000 years.
During the secularization under French rule, the monastery was abolished in 1802 and became state property. The buildings then served various secular uses.
The order of the Salvatorians took over the monastery in 1923 and revitalized it. The Salvatorians have been doing pastoral work since then, founded a high school and a boarding school for boys, and run a publishing bookstore, an educational facility and a guest house.
