Saint Nicholas, Bishop of Myra, to whom the chapel in Klingenmünster is consecrated, is - next to Saint Martin - one of the most popular saints of all. Pretty much every child in Germany - and far beyond - should know his day of remembrance, December 6th. On the eve of this day, the children used to put their shoes or boots - of course carefully cleaned - in front of the door so that they could then be filled with gifts from Saint Nicholas during the night, in agricultural areas it was also a custom that the children have also provided a little food for the donkey, the mount of Santa Claus.
