Mannheim Palace was built under the reigns of the Electors Karl Philipp and Karl Theodor in three construction periods between 1720 and 1760 in Mannheim and was the residence of the Elector Palatinate from 1720 to 1777.
The palace is mainly used by the University of Mannheim. In addition to several libraries, there are also lecture halls, seminar rooms and offices for science, teaching and administration within the building. The District Court of Mannheim also occupies part of the west wing. Mannheim Palace is also open for tours. It is one of the state's own monuments and is looked after by the "State Palaces and Gardens of Baden-Württemberg" institution. Among other things, the "Mannheim Palace Concerts" of the Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester take place in the Knights' Hall.
