Veringen Castle is the ruin of a spur castle on a 675 m above sea level surrounded by the Lauchert. NN high ridge above the parish church of St. Nikolaus in the town of Veringenstadt in the district of Sigmaringen in Baden-Wuerttemberg.
The castle was probably built around 1100 to 1130 by Count Marquard from the Counts of Veringen in the county of Veringen and mentioned in 1134. Around 1200 the castle was redesigned in a humpback square construction and the residential tower rebuilt. In 1344 Count Heinrich von Veringen sold the rights to the castle and town with the associated villages to Counts Eberhard and Ulrich von Württemberg. In 1464 the castle was repaired by Hans von Werdenberg, and in 1487 further construction work was carried out on the castle. In 1633 the "castle" below the castle at Veringen was spoiled (not destroyed) by Sweden under General Horn. [1] The old castle fell into disrepair and was used as a quarry for several generations. From 1978 to 1983 the ruins were secured and are now freely accessible.

The mighty castle of the Counts of Veringen is a national example of the former castle construction with residential tower. Terrain deformations and the ruins still hint at the former fortress elements. Around 1200, the counts rebuilt the residential tower in Staufer architecture with imposing humpback blocks. Other defensive walls, towers, buildings, ramparts and moats created a strong fortress
