The Gallusquelle is one of the largest springs in the Swabian Alb. It supplies around 40,000 people in the region with water. It is a karst spring. This means that it is connected to naturally developed underground cavity systems, so-called karst tubes, which are created by the dissolution of the rock. Karst springs usually arise on the edge of the Swabian Alb in deep valleys.
