When white steam comes out of the ground somewhere in New Zealand, then you know - a volcano. On the way from the Tongariro to the valley, you can see the white clouds of the "Sulfur Lagoon" from the volcanic crater. In the valley you can see Lake Rotorua and in the distance behind the mountains you can see the huge Lake Taupo, which almost looks like the sea from here.

A wonderful and very varied hike. Definitely recommended, but please remember the appropriate footwear, sunscreen and water. In the summer season, only 4 hours can be parked at the two access car parks. So if you do not have a friendly bring and pick up service, you need a shuttle bus.
