When the sun shines on it, the lake shines even more beautifully than it already is

The photos really do not do justice to the real sight. The three small lakes are even more beautiful to look at than you can imagine here.

A wonderful and very varied hike. Definitely recommended, but please remember the appropriate footwear, sunscreen and water. In the summer season, only 4 hours can be parked at the two access car parks. So if you do not have a friendly bring and pick up service, you need a shuttle bus.

Great picnic spot but please respect the lakes are 'tapu'.

This view from above of the lakes is in my opinion the most beautiful on New Zealand's North Island!
The three emerald lakes are small crater lakes at an altitude of approx. 1700m. Their color comes from the minerals of the volcanic subsoil and can change between greenish and bluish. Bathing is prohibited. The Emerald Lakes, Blue Lake and the mountain peaks are sacred to the Maori and should not be touched.
