The Weimar prince's crypt is no ordinary burial place of a princely family, because since 1832 the sarcophagi of the two greatest poet personalities of Weimar Classicism, Johann Wolfgang Goethe and Friedrich Schiller, stand next to the coffins of members of the House of Saxe-Weimar and Eisenach in the tomb vault. As a result, since the mid-19th century, the mausoleum has become an early place of worship for the poets.

The Weimar Fürstengruft is the burial place of some members of the houses of Saxony-Weimar and Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach at the historic cemetery in Weimar. Also Johann Wolfgang von Goethe is buried in her. The crypt is owned by the Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
It belongs since 1998 together with the historical cemetery as part of the ensemble Classical Weimar to the UNESCO world cultural heritage.

Here are the inconspicuous coffins of Schiller and Goethe (at the request of Goethe, who later died). However, the Schiller coffin is empty because it was found in a genetic test that the bones can not be from him
